Otago Daily Times photographer Peter McIntosh was there to capture the thrills and spills.Dunedin's Gallow Lasses were too good for the competition at the second annual ''Triple Be-Header'' roller derby tournament on Saturday.
The Dunedin team defended its Triple Be-Header crown in a tournament held at the Lion Foundation Arena.
It beat the Sirens of Smash All Stars, from Nelson, in the final, 246 to 150, with the Otautahi League All Stars, from Christchurch, coming third and last.
Gallow Lasses team member Karen McDonald said they were pleased to win the tournament after a four month lay-off.
''The girls have been training extremely long hours, so it was a really successful night,'' Ms McDonald said.
The team members, who each came up with their own names, took the sport seriously, but knew how to have fun at the same time, she said.
Among the names they had chosen for themselves were, Anne Thrax, Fox-Z and Rick O'Shay.
About 760 spectators attended the tournament.
