Stu Robbie has just completed a consignment of 40 handmade rocking chairs for the National Agricultural Fieldays, in Hamilton later this month.
"It's the touch of wood that makes it special," Mr Robbie said this week.
"Nothing replaces timber, really."
The macrocarpa for the furniture is all sourced and milled at his Halfway Bush property.
"Macrocarpa is like poor man's kauri. They're all going to be heirloom pieces one day."
Mr Robbie has been making furniture for 35 years, but began fabricating outdoor furniture only four years ago.
The range includes rocking chairs, swing seats and coffee tables.
"I mainly sell them at field shows and A and P shows. Farming people and lifestyle-block owners seem to really like them, because they're solid, they last and they're the most comfortable things you ever sat on."
Mr Robbie will be trading at the 2012 National Agricultural Fieldays at the Mystery Creek Events Centre, in Hamilton, from June 13 to 16.
