A 21-year-old Dunedin man is dead after a car crash on the Clinton-Mataura Highway this morning.
Detective Sergeant Cynthia Fairley, of Gore, said the man's southbound Nissan Terrano rounded a moderate left-hand bend about 10.10am before it left the road and collided with a concrete power pole.
The man, who was travelling to Mataura, died at the scene.
No other vehicles were involved, and the road was wet with drizzle, she said.
The highway was reduced to a single lane for about four hours while the scene was cleared and power lines were restored.
