Dunedin man arrested again on protest

A Dunedin man has been arrested for the second time in a week for his involvement in protests on the Transmission Gully motorway in Porirua.

Restore Passenger Rail protesters sat on southbound lanes of the motorway at Judgeford, Porirua, bringing rush hour traffic to a standstill about 7.30am yesterday.

Inspector Nick Thom said 11 people were arrested and charged with trespass and criminal nuisance.

Dunedin activist James Cockle was one of those arrested.

Earlier in the week he was arrested and charged with trespass during a similar protest near Wellington’s Melling Train Station.
