Tender documents for the Dunedin Courthouse restoration will soon be issued to a shortlist of contractors.
Courts Minister Amy Adams said today 11 local and national contractors registered their interest in the project last month.
"With a shortlist of suitable contractors, we're now moving to the next stage of the project which is issuing the tender documentation to those contractors," she said.
"My hope is that a contractor is appointed by October 2016, so the local community can see progress being made."
Dunedin's court services have been operating from a temporary facility in High St since 2011, when engineers found parts of the building needed earthquake strengthening.
The courthouse restoration project has a budget of more than $15 million and will include seismic strengthening to between 60% and 70% of the new building standard, and work to modernise the courtrooms.
The project is expected to be completed in early 2018.
