Driver in three-car crash 'not paying attention'

Police say a driver was not paying attention when she drove straight into oncoming traffic at a busy central Dunedin intersection.

Acting Senior Sergeant Simon Reay said a 30-year-old woman was driving with her sister, 27, down St Andrew St when she collided with a car driven by a man in Castle St yesterday.

‘‘His vehicle spun around and also hit a Kia driven by a 22-year-old female.’’

Police were notified of the crash at 5pm and assisted with traffic management and blocked one lane for a time.

The 27-year-old female was taken to Dunedin Hospital with ‘‘whiplash injuries’’, Sgt Reay said.

The 27-year-old male driver sustained minor cuts to his hand.

One vehicle lost its bumper, while the other two were towed.

A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said two ambulances attended.
