Driver sought over imitation sirens

A mystery driver of a ute blaring fake police sirens and lights in Dunedin is being sought by police.

Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said police were called to John Wilson Ocean Dr at 9.30pm on Tuesday after members of the public called in concerned about a white Mazda Bounty ute with fake police sirens and lights attached to the vehicle.

The driver was allegedly travelling along the road with the lights and sirens blaring.

Dunedin police spoke to the registered owner.

The owner said he was not the one driving but he declined to give the name of the person who was, Snr Sgt Bond said.

Police served him with a notice to provide further information.

Investigations were ongoing.
