The staff at a Dunedin physiotherapy clinic say they hope the driver of a car that crashed into their central city office at the weekend will come forward and avoid wasting any more police resources tracking them down.

A+ Physio managing director Anna Ory said on Saturday night a motorist appeared to have lost control of their car in Filleul St before crashing into a sign and sending the sign and car into the building.

The building’s exterior was significantly damaged as were the A+ Physio offices inside.

Her husband and the building owner were on site until early yesterday morning securing the building, she said.

The amount of damage the car and driver left behind was "certainly worth a note".

Security cameras appeared to have caught the hit-and-run, she said.

"On the camera we saw two people get out of the car, but they must have just checked it [the damage], got back in and sped off."

A police spokesman said they responded to reports of a car shunting a sign through a shop window at 11.30pm.

Inquiries were ongoing, he said.
