A yellow-eyed penguin models stylish garments at the Dunedin Wildlife Hospital late last week.

The feathered fashionista was admitted to the hospital after being injured, including damage to some of its rump feathers.

The feathers were mostly removed and it was sent to Penguin Place at Harington Point to recover.

However, when it started to pluck its new feathers, it was sent back to the hospital.

Staff then had the idea of buying two cheap baby onesies to project the frisky bird from itself.

Wildlife Hospital Trust chairman Steve Walker said it highlighted the ingenuity of the hospital vets.

"Although not quite as ground-breaking as some surgical firsts carried out at the hospital ... it is nonetheless applying a well thought out solution to a frustrating problem.''

The penguin is again recovering at Penguin Place.
