Document produced to help event organisers

Event organisers are to be offered more support by the Dunedin City Council.

The council has pulled together information into a single document for those organising anything from a major sports tournament to a reunion.

Council events special projects co-ordinator Kim Newman said the document - called ''Welcome to Dunedin'' - would offer city facts and figures, details of attractions, activities and accommodation, as well as useful contacts and websites.

Pieces of the information had been collated in the past for individual event organisers, but collating the document was a joint project involving council and Tourism Dunedin staff.

It was available on both organisations' websites, she said.

The initiative came at no cost, except a small amount of staff time, but would cater for the needs of event organisers who made regular approaches to the council seeking more information, she said.

After receiving ''about half a dozen'' such approaches within a few months, council staff had decided ''to be a bit smarter'', she said.
