An innovative television series, which is being filmed in Dunedin, is aimed at raising digital awareness among preschoolers.

Code Fun is created and produced by Pickled Possum Productions, and seeks to teach pre-schoolers the basics of digital technology.

"It’s a fantastic experience. I’ve never done any TV work before," the show’s Dunedin presenter, Rosalind Manowitz, said.

"It’s very new. I’m used to performing for live stage," she said.

Ms Manowitz (25) plays "Rozzie" in the show, and is better known as local children’s entertainer Rainbow Rosalind.

Rozzie is joined by her robot side-kick Digi in this interactive show, which shares the message that robots need to be told what to do through computer programming.

A keen musician, Ms Manowitz also created and performed music, using several instruments, ranging from violin and saxophone to guitar and flute, to inspire the viewer to interact and engage.

The 30-episode series will air later this year on TVNZ 2, TVNZ on Demand and HEIHEI, and is being filmed at various locations around Dunedin and in the NHNZ studios.

HEIHEI, which is te reo for "commotion" or "chicken", is an ad-free platform for New Zealand children aged between 5 and 9 and includes new local television shows on its free website and app.

Pickled Possum Productions director Mary Phillips, of Queenstown, has a long working history with NHNZ and was "delighted" to be working with the production company again.

The show’s 10-minute-long episodes use New Zealand’s three main languages: te reo Maori, English and New Zealand sign language, and provide a platform for fun and learning inspired by classical music, which Rozzie plays live.
