It will have to be third time lucky for the Annual Winter Ball at Larnach Castle, which has been postponed for the second time because of Covid-19 restrictions.
Gemma Geddes, of Dunedin, who was making her own dress to wear to the ball tomorrow, hoped it would be.
A new date has been set for September 18.
Ms Geddes said she had been "really excited" to attend the ball for the first time with her partner, Oliver Eltherington, who had moved to Dunedin from the United Kingdom late last year.
But there was a silver lining to the postponement because her dress was not yet complete.
"It is sort of a bonus that I have a little bit more time."
She had put together sections of what will be a navy dress, including an early Victorian-styled "hoop" to go under it, which was made using a piece of irrigation pipe.
Mr Eltherington said he was not quite as creative and planned to wear a full kilt that he had hired, but had been able to put on hold in the meantime.
Ms Geddes would continue to piece her dress together, but said, even with the extra time, she would likely leave it to the last minute.
Larnach Castle marketing manager Deborah Price said the decision to postpone was made this week.
"We are disappointed but because it involved over 100 people, a buffet supper and dancing we needed to postpone it.
"We’re hoping it’s third time lucky."
