Cameron Hart is only 7, but the Dunedin girl served as a Poppy Day volunteer for the third year running.

Proudly wearing her late grandfather’s medals from the Vietnam War, Cameron spent an hour yesterday morning exchanging poppies for donations to the Returned and Services Association (RSA) outside the Gardens New World supermarket.

The St Joseph’s Cathedral School pupil said she was pleased to have collected "heaps of notes" for the RSA.

Cameron will be attending the dawn service with her Brownies group on Anzac Day on Wednesday, and encouraged all Dunedin residents to do the same.

In George St, outside the Rob Roy Dairy, University of Otago first-year students Caitlin Meister and Macey McLaughlin were also doing their bit yesterday.

The Cumberland College residents learned about the opportunity to volunteer through their hall of residence and jumped at the chance.

"We just wanted to turn out in the community and give back," Ms McLaughlin said.

Neither student planned to attend the Hyde St Keg Party today, citing the amount of study they faced over the weekend.
