An express rail service from Mosgiel to Dunedin will make it easier to access the first All Blacks test of the season.

About 450 tickets are available for two train services from Mosgiel Station in Gladstone Rd to Dunedin for the All Blacks test against England at Forsyth Barr Stadium tomorrow.

The two trains will leave Mosgiel at 3pm and 4.40pm and will be free for infants 0-2 years old, $5 for children 3-12 years old and $9 for those more than 13 years old.

The train service from Mosgiel to Dunedin was available for the Ed Sheeran concerts in 2018.

Dunedin City Council events team leader Dan Hendra said when reviewing the transport plan after the Pink shows earlier this year the council came up with a plan with Dunedin Railways involving the trains to enhance the experience for people coming from Mosgiel to watch the All Blacks test.

There would be three services available, at 9.50pm, 11.10pm and 12.40am, back from Dunedin to Mosgiel.

"The intention behind the three trains coming back is a few people might want to stay a little bit later to catch up with a mate in town and come back an hour or two later.

"We just made it a little more flexible for a few people so they can enjoy the night."

The extra service also supported the hospitality sector by allowing establishments to make the most of out-of-town visitors coming into the city, Mr Hendra said.

Mosgiel was also a "hot spot" for visitors in Dunedin for the test looking for accommodation.

He was expecting the train tickets to sell out today and tomorrow.

There were also additional night buses running early on Sunday morning around the city and to Mosgiel.

The Otago Regional Council had arranged for people to travel for free on the public bus system if they showed their match ticket.
