The fossil site was bought by the Dunedin City Council in February, saving it from commercial mining.
Responding to questions at an annual plan submissions hearing on Tuesday, council chief executive officer Sandy Graham said the area was being re-grassed.
We’re simply re-grassing the flat area to give effect to the consent to stop the dust issues," she said.
As the new landowners, the council had an obligation to comply with existing resource consent requirements, which included dust control.
The cost of re-grassing has not yet been confirmed.
