An investigation has been launched into the conduct of a senior Dunedin City Council manager, the Otago Daily Times can reveal.

The ODT understands a King’s Counsel has started their investigation into the manager, which includes interviewing staff about the manager’s conduct and performance.

The council did not respond to questions about the investigation nor those about why it was launched.

Councillors have either not responded to questions or said they could not comment on employment matters.

Dunedin Mayor Jules Radich said he was asked various questions from time to time.

"Sometimes it is neither possible or appropriate to comment, because of privacy rights and legal privilege," he said.

The ODT was earlier told that, prior to an investigation being launched, former staff were being contacted about any concerns they had about the manager’s management style.

The manager declined to answer an extensive list of questions from the ODT about former staff being contacted, and no response was received to questions about the appointment of the KC.
