Easier parking with new tech

Parking your vehicle in Dunedin is set to become easier.

The Wall Street and Lower Moray Pl carparks will have licence plate recognition technology installed next week.

The Dunedin City Council (DCC) said in a release the technology would make parking easier and more streamlined.

It will scan vehicle licence plates to record the times they enter and exit the carpark.

Users then enter their licence plate number when they go to pay prior to exiting the building.

The Great King St carpark building had the technology installed earlier this year. Wall Street and Lower Moray Pl will be the second and third DCC carparks to have it installed.

Lower Moray Pl carpark will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday while the technology is installed.

Wall Street carpark will remain open as normal and installation will be completed overnight on Monday and Tuesday.

Switching to the technology will reduce the amount of repairs and maintenance work on meters and save drivers from having to keep their parking ticket on hand, therefore avoiding any lost tickets.
