The Dunedin City Council has so far spent $1.3million on remedial work after last month’s flooding and slips.

Further costs were still to come in, a council spokesman said yesterday.

Sustained rain fell on the region early in October, leading to surface flooding and slips cutting off roads.

The council’s transport, property, Three Waters, and parks and recreation teams continued to work with contractors, the spokesman said.

This included Neidpath Rd, where a road closure remained in effect yesterday.

"Solutions for some other sites are expected to be put out for tender in early 2025," he said.

The council was working through options for cost recovery and funding, he said.

This included working with insurers, NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi and the National Emergency Management Agency.

Some homes were also damaged by the severe weather.

A spokesman for the Insurance Council of New Zealand said the number of insurance claims remained about 1000.
