The Dunedin City Council has praised the community's response to the flood alert, and it's pleased with its own response.
Chief executive Sue Bidrose said the event brought 90mm of rain in the 60 hours to 10am this morning.
Since 10am, there had been about 7mm more.
The council closed its emergency operation centre yesterday afternoon, but staff remain on alert.
Dunedin is still under a heavy rain watch this afternoon.
"We're just catching the very tail-end of Cyclone Cook now, and they're saying we should keep an eye on it during the afternoon.''
Contractors were dealing with "minor slips'', including at Wellers Rock on Harington Point Rd.
The Royal Albatross Centre has closed because of the slip.
Sports grounds and freedom camping areas were closed, and there were a few reports of minor flooding in parts of the city.
The council had given out 5000 sandbags, and Ms Bidrose was impressed by the efforts of volunteers and community groups to help with the sandbagging.
Ms Bidrose said there had been significantly less rain than the June 2015 flood, but it was apparent that the council had learned lessons from that event.
"The comments on social media suggest that people have noticed that.''
"We had really great staff controlling the event.''
"Things felt much smoother.''
Anyone with flood-related damage to report should contact the council on 03 477 4000.
