The 31-year-old was followed by police after allegedly failing to stop for a road policing unit and speeding off on Stuart St yesterday morning.
The pursuit was abandoned for safety reasons and the vehicle tracked to a Belleknowes address, Acting Snr Sgt Simon Reay said.
When police searched the address the driver being found hiding in a wardrobe, he said.

Five police cars were seen parked outside of a property in Carnarvon St, the scene of the arrest.
Officers were seen entering the property before escorting a woman out and placing her into the back of a police car.
A canine unit was also seen on site.

• An investigation is under way after a suspicious fire in Dunedin yesterday.
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said they responded to reports of a car fire in Clyde Hill about 6am.
Crews extinguished the blaze, which is being treated as suspicious.
They left the scene in the care of police, but were called back a short time later after smoke was seen coming from a nearby house.
Crews from Lookout Point and Dunedin found the fire in an exterior barge board and extinguished it.
A fire investigator had been called to the scene, the spokesman said.
