The roaming medical bus held an open day in the city on Saturday, during which guests could perform dummy procedures, including stitching up a slab of pork and removing a lolly from a tube in a mock colonoscopy.
The unit travels around the country providing surgery to rural areas.
Mobile Health NZ chief executive Mark Eager said the open day was about advertising a positive health news story.
``We haven't done an open day in Dunedin for about four years and it's a good example of a service that helps rural communities.''
The unit recruited the help of local nurses in the areas it travelled to, he said.
