Dunedin police are seeking to identify a man who was in the car with Jack Brazil when the Dunedin activist was shot.

Officers were called to Yours, a cafe and venue in Moray Pl, where Mr Brazil was found with a gunshot wound about 3.10am on April 16.

Yours is owned by Ōtepoti Possibilities Co-operative, of which Mr Brazil is a shareholder.

A police statement released yesterday said inquiries had established Mr Brazil was shot in Littlebourne Rd earlier in the morning.

At the time of the shooting, Mr Brazil had been in a vehicle with another man, to whom police now wanted to speak.

The man’s vehicle had been found and police were continuing to investigate whether Mr Brazil was the intended target of the shooting, the statement said.

Detective Senior Sergeant Nik Leigh, of Dunedin, said officers wanted to hear from anyone who had information which could assist police inquiries.

"We urge the man who was in the vehicle with the victim to come forward and speak to police," Snr Sgt Leigh said.

On the morning of the shooting officers were seen using a tow truck to remove a blue Honda Civic, which was parked across the street from Yours.

It is understood this was the vehicle in which Mr Brazil arrived at the cafe.
