Police pursuit catches pair and nets drugs

Two men were arrested after bags of cannabis and ''white powder'' believed to be controlled drugs were allegedly found in their car after a police pursuit in Dunedin.

Detective Sergeant Christopher Henderson, of Dunedin, said police signalled for a vehicle to stop on Kenmure Rd on Tuesday evening.

The 25-year-old male driver did not stop, and decided to flee from police, Det Sgt Henderson said.

Police followed the car through Mornington.

''After a short pursuit the driver of the vehicle pulled into the driveway of a residence on Preston Cres,'' Det Sgt Henderson said.

Police found bags of cannabis and bags of ''white powder'' when they searched the vehicle, he said.

More than $500 in cash was also found.

The driver was arrested and charged with reckless driving and failing to stop for police.

He and the 24-year-old male passenger, who also had an outstanding warrant to arrest for failing to appear in court on historic matters, were also charged with possession of cannabis for supply.

The vehicle was impounded.
