Police are hunting for two men seen breaking into a ute in Waverley this morning.
Senior Sergeant Craig Dinnissen, of Dunedin, said about 4am today the men were disturbed by a witness while trying to break into the metal case on the back of a work ute.
They promptly hopped into a silver station wagon, possibly a Nissan, and fled the scene.
Snr Sgt Dinnissen said one of the offenders was described as a European between 24 and 28 years of age, of medium height and build with stubble on his face, light brown hair cut short and wearing a blue or grey hoody.
His accomplice was described as of medium height and stocky build, wearing a black hoody (with the hood up) and a red-brimmed hat.
