Man down from Dunedin roof after standoff

Armed police were called to a Dunedin house and a man has come down from a roof and been taken into custody following an incident earlier in the day. 

Police were called to Neidpath Rd, in the suburb of Mornington, at 4.30pm today.

An ODT reporter at the scene said at 9.30pm, there was a large police presence, including members of the armed offenders squad.

A man had been on the roof for a time but had come down by then. 

It is believed he was arrested without incident.

Firefighters could be seen with a ladder and a stretcher.  St John was also in attendance. 

A witness told the ODT the man had allegedly broken into a neighbour's house earlier in the day. 

It was not known if anyone was injured. 

A cordon was set up at the intersection of Neidpath Rd and Glen Rd about 5.15pm, leaving some people unable to return home for a time.
