A man accused of a gunpoint hold-up of a Mosgiel pub allegedly committed another aggravated robbery two weeks earlier.

The 29-year-old appeared in the Dunedin District Court yesterday where he was remanded in custody without plea, and signalled his intention to make a bail application today.

According to court documents, the defendant — with an unknown accomplice — used a "sawn-off firearm" to commit the aggravated robbery of Crofters Bar on Friday night.

Charge sheets alleged they got away with about $5000 cash.

The defendant was also charged with armed robbery in Caversham’s Peter St on August 13.

Court documents said he and a 35-year-old co-defendant used "machetes, knuckle dusters, a nunchuck and hammer" to rob a man and his female associate.

The pair allegedly made off with a handbag, a cellphone, a gaming console, a black BMW, four pairs of shoes, bank cards, $192 cash and two bags.

In a statement released by police yesterday, they said inquiries were continuing to establish the identity of others involved in the Crofters heist.

A bartender who was working that night previously told the Otago Daily Times there were about 15 people in the establishment at the time.

She said one of the two men pointed a firearm at her, then forced her to empty the safe before fleeing.
