Eclectic mixture of burglaries and thefts reported during week

A raid on a trailer-sailer yacht and yet another instance of missing garden gear were among the assortment of burglaries and break-ins reported to Southern police this week.

Senior Sergeant Trevor Thomson, of Dunedin, said a yacht cradled on its boat trailer, which was parked in Perth St, Oamaru, was targeted. It was plundered by two offenders who smashed their way through the hatch before removing clothing and a stereo.

Police received a report late last week, that a garden hose and its storage reel were taken from a Queens Dr home in St Kilda, Dunedin, Snr Sgt Thomson said.

Another green-fingered burglar was apparently at work in Green Island, where on Sunday a 35kg bag of Yates potting mix went missing from the front section of a Will St home.

The incidents come after two pot plants were reported stolen from homes in St Kilda earlier this month, while a similar spate of botanical burglaries were reported in nearby St Clair in 2011.

Also reported to police this week was the theft of the front indicator lights from a Mercedes Benz parked in driveway in Stenhope Cres, Corstorphine.
