A Dunedin man driving five times over the legal alcohol limit, who bailed out of his car but forgot to apply the brakes, caused it to crash into a power pole in the Octagon, police say.
Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said a 34-year-old-man was driving in the Octagon when he crashed into a parked car about 2am on Saturday.
The man ran off but the car kept moving.
His vehicle mounted the kerb and hit a power pole in Moray Pl.
The man was located by officers and recorded a breath alcohol reading of 1354mcg.
The legal limit for adults is 250mcg.
The reading was "very high", and readings in the thousands were unfortunately becoming more common, Snr Sgt Bond said.
About 1am on Sunday, a vehicle was seen bunny-hopping and skidding on George St.
When police pulled it over, they discovered it was overloaded with six passengers, two of whom were in the boot.
The 18-year-old man who was driving recorded a breath alcohol level of 924mcg.

On Friday at about 11.25pm, a checkpoint in Butts Road nabbed an 18-year-old woman who recorded a breath alcohol reading of 678mcg.
All four drivers received a 28-day suspension and would appear in court for drink-driving, Snr Sgt Bond said.
Earlier Saturday morning a 42-year-old-man, who told officers he had drunk a dozen beers the night before, recorded a breath alcohol reading of 305mcg and received an infringement notice.
A total of nine drivers were processed for drink driving, Snr Sgt Bond said.
