Driver charged; two urged to turn themselves in

A Dunedin man faces charges of aggravated failing to stop and dangerous driving for his alleged antics over the weekend, and police are calling for two more drivers who fled police to hand themselves in.

Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said officers attempted to stop a car which almost hit a patrol car in Clark St about 3.40pm on Saturday.

When officers attempted to pull the car over in Princes St, it left at speed and was seen running several traffic lights and being driven dangerously in traffic, Snr Sgt Bond said.

Officers did not pursue the vehicle but located it when it hit the footpath in Strathallan St.

They arrested a 29-year-old man who has been charged with aggravated failing to stop and dangerous driving, he said.

Police also tried to stop a car in Queens St about 12.10am on Sunday.

It failed to stop and shortly afterwards was found abandoned in Heriot Row.

A passenger was found at a nearby address and arrested for being unlawfully on the property, and inquiries were ongoing to locate the driver, Snr Sgt Bond said.

On Friday about 10.15pm police attempted to stop a sliver Audi on Musselburgh Rise.

The driver sped away and while police did not pursue, they believe they had identified him though CCTV footage.
