Drink-driver narrowly avoids hitting patrol car

A man was caught drink-driving after he narrowly missed crashing into a patrol car on Saturday, police say.

Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said police stopped a vehicle in Prince Albert Rd at 1.15am after it almost crashed into their patrol car.

Once the car was stopped, police noticed it was damaged.

The 39-year-old driver said he had crashed into a pole but could not recall the location, Snr Sgt Anthony Bond said.

The man recorded a breath-alcohol level of 400mcg.

He also took a blood test for drugs, and police were awaiting the result.

Despite searching, police were unable to find any damaged poles.
