Covid restrictions: police deal with disorderly pair

Frustration over Covid-19 restrictions led to disorderly behaviour around Dunedin last week.

Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said a 61-year-old man was asked to leave the St Clair Hot Salt Water Pool and cafe at 2.15pm on Friday as he had not been vaccinated.

The man decided to sit outside on the outdoor chairs and demanded that staff prove it was not a public area.

When police arrived, he was sitting further down on a bench seat, Snr Sgt Bond said.

Staff were happy he had left the area and no further action was taken.

On Saturday, a man caused disorder outside the police station in central Dunedin about 6.30pm.

Snr Sgt Bond said the 39-year-old was running around nearby bus stops yelling at people, saying he was ‘‘sick of all this mask s***’’.

The man was angry to start with, but happy to be given a ride home by police.
