Potential links with an earlier Dunedin dairy robbery on Sunday night could hold the key to tracking down the offender responsible for an armed robbery at the Elgin Food Market last night.

Police last night responded to the robbery at the Maryhill dairy, which was reported to police at 8.40pm.

A weapon was presented during the robbery and the offender fled on foot, then got into a vehicle.

``Fortunately, no-one was injured,'' a police spokeswoman said.

Police were asked if there were any possible links between the two incidents, including if a similar red vehicle, believed to be a Mazda, had been involved in both
crimes.

A police spokeswoman replied police were making inquiries as to if the robbery was linked to the previous robbery ``but at this stage we're unable to confirm anything further''.

Masked offenders stole cigarettes from a South Dunedin dairy on Sunday night, the latest in a string of such incidents.

The two offenders wore masks and stole cigarettes before fleeing in a
vehicle.

The Elgin Food Market was also robbed just before 4.45pm on June 23 last year.
