Police, St John and Fire and Emergency New Zealand (Fenz) were called to the crash on the corner of Leith and Hanover Sts at 8.34am, a police spokeswoman said.
Both cars were significantly damaged in the crash and had to be towed.
The cause of the crash is unknown and it was unknown if anyone was injured.
