A judge has refused bail for a Tauranga man arrested for allegedly indecently assaulting three young girls in Queenstown’s public swimming pool.
The 41-year-old was granted interim name suppression by Judge John Strettell when he appeared in the Queenstown District Court yesterday.
The man, who was arrested at the Alpine Aqualand pool complex on Wednesday evening, faces three charges of indecently assaulting a child under 12.
The first alleged assault occurred on Thursday, last week, and the other two on Wednesday about 5pm.
The incidents involved "inappropriately touching", Senior Sergeant Paula Enoka, of Queenstown, said.
The Queenstown District Council was "deeply concerned" about the alleged assaults, council sport and recreation manager Simon Battrick said yesterday.
Council staff had offered support and were helping police with their inquiries.
"It is paramount that our facilities are safe places."
Queenstown police said the alleged incidents took place in the lazy river area of the pool.
They were speaking to other concerned parents, and encouraged anyone with concerns about their children to visit Queenstown Police Station or call (03) 441-1600.
The man will next appear in court later this month.
