Councillor standing for fifth term

Dunedin deputy mayor Syd Brown has announced he plans to stand again at the October elections as a councillor in the Mosgiel-Taieri ward.

Cr Brown said he had considered running for the mayoralty, but decided the time commitments of that role would not fit in with his other activities.

The Mosgiel company director will have completed four terms as a councillor by October, with two of those as deputy mayor.

He said yesterday he had taken a long time to consider the demands on his time and family, but believed the council was developing plenty of amenities for the future, and he wanted to see them completed.

"I think Dunedin's a great place to live. I want everyone else to have the same view."
