The Dunedin City Council's group of trading companies will have the same directors for the next year, after the council approved the re-election of incumbents.
Directors were also granted an increase in fees to a maximum of $868,178, though the council finance and strategy meeting heard yesterday some did not pay themselves the maximum available.
Across the council companies for the last financial year, directors received $747,148, compared with the $831,765 available.
Taieri Gorge Railway directors paid themselves $50,000 instead of the $80,438 allowed, and Citibus directors had taken 10% less for the third year in a row because of "under-performance".
Dunedin City Holdings Ltd (DCHL) reported earlier this month a 7.6% increase in revenue and a modest increase in profit when it made public its annual result.
Directors receive 25% less than the median fee paid in New Zealand because of the community service aspect of the work.
DCHL chief executive Bevan Dodds said in a report to the committee yesterday that fees were calculated on annual turnover, asset value, shareholders' funds and staff numbers.
"Under the policy, fees change in accordance with the general movement in directors' fees across the country, and with changes in the size of the company."
Mr Dodds said one-third of directors had to resign each year, and they had the opportunity to offer themselves for re-election.
While Cr Fliss Butcher questioned the gender imbalance of the directors, with Kate Wilson the only woman, Cr Michael Guest said the council had been well served, and the directors should be reappointed.
