The former president of Stop the Stadium, Bev Butler, believes her public profile over the last three years will help boost her voting tally at this year's election.
Ms Butler announced yesterday she planned to stand for the Dunedin City Council in the central ward.
At the 2007 election, Ms Butler polled just 282 votes in the Hills ward, when she stood on former city councillor Lee Vandervis' Open Democracy ticket.
Yesterday, she said she would be standing as an independent for the October election.
Her work with Stop the Stadium since then meant "people know who I am and what I stand for".
Apart from bringing "transparency to hidden stadium costs and agendas", she wanted the council to concentrate on the city's natural and man-made heritage, and be more business-friendly to small and medium-size businesses.
"We all know the next few years will be tough with a council deep in debt. We have to live within our means.
"Hard decisions will have to be made."
Two nominations for the October elections have been received for the Otago Regional Council Dunedin constituency.
They are sitting councillor Louise Croot and Dunedin man Alan McDonald.
