Archana (sister) Mishra came to Dunedin from India 12 years ago as a yogic nun with Ananda Marga, a worldwide socio-spiritual organisation.
"I’m so delighted.
"I’m very, very, very happy to be officially part of New Zealand," she said.
Archana Mishra became a nun 23 years ago.
She teaches yoga and meditation to Dunedin residents, and offers daily free classes at the University of Otago.
"I feel like yoga is natural for everyone, and everybody has the right to learn how to live a healthy life," she said.
The organisation collects food to distribute to the community, as well as accepting donations for relief work and provides support to emergency services.
"I travel all over New Zealand to collect food and give to shelters and churches, fundraising, and to provide a hand for anyone who needs a hand."
While she travels far and wide in her role, Dunedin has always been her home in New Zealand and would remain so for the foreseeable future, she said.
Dunedin Mayor Jules Radich oversaw the ceremony.
