Dunedin City Council engineering project manager Janan Nirainjanan said the spillway was being cleaned to assess damage, in preparation for modifications that would take place as part of the reservoir's multimillion-dollar restoration.
It would take three to four days to complete the cleaning. Work to repair the spillway would follow and the its walls would be raised by about 50cm, Mr Nirainjanan said. The restoration was expected to be finished by February.
