She attended the first meeting earlier this year and was pleased the initiative would officially launch today.
"I've got two children and I just wanted to keep Mosgiel a safe and friendly community," she said.
Patrol member Bill Feather said the group had more than 40 members and was run by a committee of eight.
With Mosgiel-Taieri Community Board funding, a vehicle had been bought ensuring the mobile patrols could operate.
All members had undergone training with support from North and South Dunedin patrol groups, and the Mosgiel police.
Mosgiel Community Constable Jacqui Ballam said the patrol was "wonderful" and she knew it would be an asset to the community and local police.
"Everyone in Mosgiel station is very supportive of them," she said.
Mr Feather said a minimum of two people would patrol on Friday and Saturday nights to act as eyes and ears for the police.
Males and females were equally represented in the group, more than half worked full-time and the majority were aged between 30 and 40, he said.
