Christmas dinner with a difference

Dunedin residents (from left) Alisana Setu, Leuan Lam San and Leaana Pita Sione will include octopus on their Christmas menu after catching two of the creatures at the Andersons Bay Inlet at the weekend.

After their fishing success on Saturday, they explained how, when they spot an octopus in the inlet they clap, or bang jandals together to draw it closer so they can catch it.

The two creatures will be chopped into pieces, mixed with coconut milk and onion, and then baked in the oven, the men said.
