He's been making a list, checking it twice, and it turns out, Dunedin kids are less naughty, more nice.
Yesterday excited children lined up outside Santa’s Grotto on the bottom level of the mall for their chance to tell Father Christmas what they wanted to unwrap on Christmas morning.
"They’re very accepting of whatever Santa will bring them. They’re not demanding, as long as they’re having time with mummy and daddy," Mr Claus said of his visitors.
Laptops and Lego were some of the more popular requests this year, he said.
The city’s children had been "exceptionally" good this year.
He hoped people would enjoy quality time with their loved ones over the holiday season.
"It’s time we should spend enjoying with our families, overeating and oversleeping."
And staying safe while travelling was also important.
"Slow down, stay safe, because I’ll be on the road with my reindeer and I need a wide berth."
Waiting eagerly in line to meet Santa were Lane (7) and Lexi (5) Harris.
Lane was hoping he would find a tool set under the tree on Christmas Day, while Lexi wanted a Barbie ambulance toy.
For Lane, the best part of Christmas was simple.
"Giving presents."
