Caught twice

A 27-year-old dunedin man who was forbidden to drive after he was processed for drink-driving early yesterday will appear in the Dunedin District Court later this month after he allegedly drove his car on the way home from the police station.

Senior Sergeant Brian Benn said the man was brought to the Dunedin Central Police Station for processing in the early hours of yesterday after he was caught driving while intoxicated in central Dunedin.

He recorded 715mcg of alcohol per litre of breath. The legal limit is 400mcg.

When he was released to walk home about 5.30am, he returned to his car in the Octagon where police watched on CCTV as he allegedly got into the vehicle and drove off. He was stopped on Rattray St, where he blew 671mcg.
