Cars tampered with in Corstorphine

Dunedin police are investigating the attempted theft of cars in the Corstorphine area and believe they may be linked.

A 1992 Toyota Corolla and a 1997 Nissan Bluebird were broken into overnight on Wednesday and it appeared someone had tried to steal them, Senior Sergeant Liz Waru said.

The ignition barrels to both were damaged and messy searches of the cars had been carried out, she said.

The Corolla was parked in Summertime Ave and the Bluebird in nearby Milburn St.

The Corolla was moved about 10 metres in an apparent attempt to push start the car while hot-wiring it.

Police are investigating any potential links to the break-ins, Snr Sgt Waru said.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Corstorphine area, or with information that can help, should contact Dunedin police on (03) 471-4800.

Information could also be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
