Young women from Dunedin schools listened to inspiring women in different careers talk about their journeys over breakfast yesterday.

National Council of Women New Zealand Dunedin branch member Elizabeth Cunningham organised the council’s seventh annual breakfast where 75 young women from Dunedin schools had the opportunity to listen to five inspiring women.

Ms Cunningham said the women did not speak about what they did but rather the journey they took to get where they were.

"Their journeys were so interesting because I don’t think any of them ended up where they thought they would when they left school.

"They’ve taken different steps on the way that have taken them in different directions."

The speakers included Ministry for the Environment policy analyst Hannah Steans, University of Otago Medical School dean Joanne Baxter and Craigs Investment Partners investment adviser Lauren Hall.

Ms Hall said it was nice to have the opportunity to share her experience and reflect back on when she was a high school pupil and the decisions she was making.

She said her message to the young women was to never let anyone tell them what they were capable of and to never limit themselves.

As a former Otago Girls High School pupil, Ms Hall was pleased to be able to chat with current pupils about their school experiences and what they were interested in.
