The redeveloped building, which cost $18.5million and was formally opened in March, won an excellence award in the education category of the New Zealand Property Council Awards, held in Auckland on Friday night.
Before its redevelopment, the building was the subject of complaints because of its slippery tiled floor in winter.
It was the site of numerous injuries, including a serious accident which resulted in a $60,000 payout and an apology from the university in 2015.
