Seven preschool children of Rōpū Tiaki Tamaiti were joined by parents and teachers in picking up rubbish along the Water of Leith.

The childcare centre, which was next to the Leith, organised the cleanup to nurture a strong connection between the children and the stream.

Teachers often took the children for walks along the banks and wanted to teach them about looking after the environment.

Teacher Karla Lawrie said the children loved every second of the cleanup.

"It’s actually really hard to get them to stop," she said.

"They pick up so much they want to keep going"
