A group of Otago students, who have raised tens of thousands of dollars, are keeping people talking about their mental health with the help of a nationwide production company.

The group of 33 students, called the Heavy Breathers, raised $110,000 for Spark That Chat by taking on the Dunedin Marathon last year.

More than a year on the groups have come together again to bring the "Fuel Your Stoke" charity event to Dunedin.

The free event is on Sunday at Errick’s and features Dunedin bands, food and chat.

Spark That Chat director Jack Jensen said it was an "honour" to bring the event to Dunedin and show the Heavy Breathers what their work had done.

"[The Heavy Breathers] can see in the flesh what they’ve created, what they’ve like allowed us to create and envision," he said.

It was "wild" to him that the group raised such a large amount of money last year.

The Heavy Breathers’ efforts took on extra significance last year after member George Murray lost his brother to suicide while they trained for the marathon.

"With devastating events it makes massive ripples and people get round it even more," Mr Jensen said.

Local music acts Hot Sauce Club, Cruze Control, The Beatniks, I.V.Y, Leo Lilley, Ani Saafa and Albatross will all perform during the concert.

In between sets he would "spark that chat" and speak with the crowd, Mr Jensen said.

"It all creates a safe space where people can have fun."

The group’s mission was to bring people together to create spaces to help save lives, he said.

Spark That Chat member Sam Wilkinson said he was grateful to be able to provide the space for people to talk.

"It’s wicked. We’ve all lost homies unfortunately. So to get behind and help a force that’s doing wicked stuff is something I’m super grateful to be a part of."
