Callout for gas alert

Station Officer Mike Taylor exits the Bendon Outlet store in Crawford St yesterday, after two fire appliances responded to reports of a strong small of gas in the building. 

Crews from Dunedin Central and Willowbank searched the building and surrounding areas but found no source of the smell.

"There was a comment that a member of the public may have had a large bag of garlic powder which is maybe why we were called out," SO Taylor said.

He said if people did smell gas, they should leave the area and contact emergency services.
