A burst water main in Princes St has left some High St and Princes St businesses without water today.
City Care machine operator Matt Allen said the contractor had been fielding phone calls since 2.30am of reports of water bubbling on to the footpath near the Galloway Cook Allan building.
Many businesses in the area had been left without water while repairs were under way, he said.
"It is unfortunate, but there is nothing we can do about it.
"We have to turn the water off while we repair it for the safety of the public and ourselves."
It was hoped the main would be fixed by 1.30pm.
It was likely the weekend's cold snap had caused the main to burst, he said.
Galloway Cook Allan receptionist Sophie Borland said four bathrooms were out of action, leaving one toilet for 50 staff.
"It is a wee bit annoying."
